About Paula Horan

Dr. Paula Horan (Laxmi Dechen Wangmo) is an American psychologist who is known worldwide for her numerous books, seminars and retreats on alternative and complimentary therapies, authentic forms of vibrational medicine and integrative body/mind therapeutics with emphasis on Reiki and EFT. For the last few years, she has focused mainly on her ground-breaking approaches to spirituality and non-dual awareness.
Born in America, she lived her childhood years in Italy and Germany. Completing her undergraduate studies in sociology and English literature in Britain, she then achieved both her MA (focusing on dance therapy) and her Ph.D. in psychology in San Diego, California.
From 1992 through 1997, she spent much of her time with her spiritual master Shri H.W.L Poonjaji in India, who gave her the name Laxmi. Shri Poonjaji or ‘Papaji’, as he was affectionately called, was one of the three main disciples of Shri Ramana Maharshi. Shri Poonjaji was a self realized being; a fully realized Buddha who left his body in September 1997. Quickened by his presence, Paula shifted her focus from self-improvement, to the self-inquiry that evokes the quiet stillness of awakened presence. In 1998, Karma brought her together with her Vajrayana Master who gave her the name Dechen Wangmo (Queen of Great Bliss).
Inspired by these two great masters, her wish is to illicit the same joy and freedom in others; thus she developed the energizing vehicle of Core Empowerment, a five-day retreat that incorporates Jnana Yoga, the science of cutting through the mind, where she has had a worldwide impact. Much later, to fulfill the needs of today's participants who wish to imbibe non-dual awareness in a more graduated way, she created Karma Completion, a series of eight, three day programs which provide you with a simple and effective way to slowly and steadily gain a non-dual perception of reality, free of ego identification; thus cultivating a state of equanimity in the ever expanding awareness of our true nature.
During her time with Shri Poonjaji, she developed a great love for India and decided to stay after his transition. Although primarily known as the person who introduced Reiki to India in 1989, she has a comprehensive experience and keen acumen in many cross-disciplined forms of body/mind and energy therapies. Dr. Horan is one of the founding members of the Indian Body/Mind Therapy Association.
Another factor in Paula’s life that inspired her to become an avid researcher on detoxification and rejuvenation therapies is her personal success in treating one uterine and two breast tumors with raw food diet, Reiki and Ozone Therapy. Twenty-five years ago she became acquainted with the therapeutic effects and astonishing benefits of oxygen and its tri-atomic form, ozone, in regard to healing degenerative disease and also as a restorative rejuvenation therapy. Her knowledge and personal experience in this field has put her at the forefront of the quest for longevity and for sustaining peak health in an increasingly challenged environment. Paula believes it is important to live a healthy long life in order to complete our life's purpose; the full recognition of our own true nature.
Paula’s seminars and retreats on an expansive range of wellness subjects and on non- dual awareness are whole-heartedly received, due to her unique ability to communicate complicated concepts in a simple and easy manner. She is well known for her warmth, for her inspirational teaching style and her enduring smile, indicative of the joy she finds in sharing her knowledge—which enliven and motivate her students to manifest the richness inherent in their lives. Paula has appeared on Radio and TV shows in the US, Europe and India. In 1999 she received the Full Circle “Inner Flame Award” from former Prime Minister Shri I.K. Gujral for her contribution to disseminating alternative and complimentary methods of healing. The citation also commended her for her grace and grit in adversity.
Her first book, Empowerment Through Reiki has been translated into 20 languages. It was followed by Abundance Through Reiki, Core Empowerment, Reiki –108 Questions and Answers: Your Dependable Guide For A Lifetime of Reiki Practice, The Ultimate Reiki Touch, The Nine Principles of Self-Healing and Heal Yourself With Ozone. Her latest book is Fierce Innocence: The Essential Road Map for Living Life's Purpose in very Challenging Times, and Helping others along the Way. Drawing on her considerable experience in the Taoist tradition, Advaita Vedanta and the Vajrayana, she has created a succinct set of instructions for cutting through a mind diluted by the appearance of separation and habituated to fear and chaos, to bring it home to a non-dual awareness, grounded in confidence in the direct experience of oneness.
Currently Paula teaches across China and India and is based in Kathmandu, Nepal, where she concentrates on the practices of the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. More information about Dr. Paula Horan is available on her website
